Tess Lambrecht
My artistic process begins with the digital collage of imagery, a foundation upon which I build layers of acrylic paint on prepped canvas. The quick-drying nature of acrylics allows me to work intuitively, layering thin washes of color to create luminous depth. Blending and stippling with my fingers further enhances the ethereal quality of the figures and landscapes that emerge.
This process of layering and uncovering mirrors the way in which stories and mysteries unfold. I am captivated by the interplay between the human form, particularly the strength and beauty of women, and the organic world. Ocean coral gardens, with their vibrant yet fragile ecosystems, and the quiet mystery of forest flora serve as both inspiration and metaphor. The allure of masquerade and fashion, with their hints of hidden identities and transformative power, informs my exploration of the mysterious realms inhabited by phantoms, cryptids, and other creatures of the unknown.
These figures, often imbued with a sense of romance and independence, invite viewers to question the boundaries between reality and imagination. My canvases pulsate with luminous hues, juxtaposing unexpected shades to create a sense of otherworldly beauty. My figures gaze outward with an air of quiet contemplation, inviting the viewer to question the narratives that surround them. I hope that my work sparks a sense of wonder and possibility, encouraging viewers to explore the hidden stories and untold mysteries that lie just beneath the surface of the visible world.
