Liz Zepeda grew up on the coast of South Texas and draws influence from her family’s journey, and life experiences. She believes that our dreams allow us to process lived experiences with the surreal awareness of energy from our ancestors that intertwine with contemporary culture. The artworks are created through a meditative process. Each artwork begins with an underpainting on a variety of surfaces that range from wood, textiles, canvas, glass and clay. She often adds layers of stitching, adhering found objects, collage elements of fabric and photo transfers embedded in acrylic or encaustic paintings. Ending with more layers of lusciously blended paint to complete her visual narrative. Her influences are from family’s journey, stories and life
experiences. She believes that our dreams allow us to process our lived experiences with the surreal awareness of energy from our ancestors, intertwining with contemporary culture.
